This weekend, I hit a milestone in my collection. I was able to go to the American Girl Place here in New York to get Cecile and Marie-Grace, and with them, my collection now consists of 75 of the 18" dolls.
I know, wow, is right. I honestly thought that my collection had gotten smaller, since I sold a couple of them. But since I was keeping them in bins, I wasn't keeping track of how many I had exactly, so I was very surpised when I took them out and counted them all. I'm sure that many of you have felt like I have, when I sell one, two replace that one!
The reason that I took them all out and put them on my dressers is because my friends all came over for a month late birthday party, and I was cleaning my room. All of the dolls in bins took up so much floor space, so the efficient thing to do was get them out and on display, where they would take up less room. Well, lets just say that my friends were not expecting to see so many dolls when they walked through the door. I should have filmed them coming in; the looks on their faces was priceless! They all took pictures on their cell phones, and even took a picture together with them holding a couple of my dolls.
I work with them, so today we talked about it, and while they now see my collection, which they know is a big part of who I am, they all confessed that they were very creeped out. I have half of my dolls standing on the dresser directly in front of my bed and they cannot imagine waking up to facing 30 staring dolls. And since I ran out of room on my two dressers, I had to put the remaining dolls on both sides of my bed on my nightstands, something that really creeped them out. But I don't mind. There are certain things that people collect that is not my forte...but hey, I'm not the ones collecting them. I admit that I was a bit hesitant letting them in on my doll collection, but I'm really glad that I did. I am glad that I have good friends that accept me for who I am, for all that I am. I hope that you have friends like that as well!
